Epic work is
only possible
when you
have the
right people.
The kind of people who are good at what they do and know how to have fun in the process.
We always
take our
work seriously. But never ourselves.
We keep things light. We laugh hard. And we genuinely enjoy one another’s company. It’s our secret sauce. And when you work with us, we consider you part of the team. So prepare to roll up your sleeves and have some fun too.

The "Day in the Life" of a Landscape Architect is entirely different from the next, and comes with its own challenges and thrills. The excitement and possibility are fueled by a team that pushes to find creativity in every project facet. From strategizing around a war table to celebrating the grand opening of our latest themed attraction, we try to harness and embrace the spontaneous flow to do our best work.

Meet Travis, our "Experience Creator" (his self-given title), who has a knack for adding a dash of fun to everything he does. During the pandemic, Travis turned his home into a greenhouse, nurturing not one, not ten, but a whopping 71 house plants. His green thumb isn`t the only thing he tends to, either. He`s a proud pet parent to Winslow, aka "Buddy," his Winter White Hamster—a character in his own right.
As a kid, Travis dreamed of becoming a zoologist; he now channels that curiosity into designing meaningful spaces in our architecture studio. His friends and family describe him as honest, loyal, and delightfully sarcastic, a combo as punchy as his favorite meme—the kid with a fist full of sand (we know, it`s hilarious every time).
We`re not just grateful for his exceptional talent and collaborative spirit. We`d trust him with our house plants and our house plans alike!
Team bonding, design inspiration, and development insights, our Payne Pals never miss an opportunity to learn and build team chemistry. DTJers from our Architecture Studio set out to learn more about the rapidly developing area of Denver`s @RiNoArtDistrict. From the timber-framed T3 (Timber, Transit, and Technology) building to the interesting biophilic design of the One River North luxury residential apartments, the day was full of great vibes. 🙌
Check out the fun they had, topped off by eating lunch at a local gem in RiNo. 🤤 @odie.bs
DTJ is proud to have celebrated our 50th anniversary as a company this last year. Founded in 1967 as Downing Leach and subsequently as Downing, Thorpe, and James, DTJ has been providing quality, thoughtful community planning, landscape design, and architecture to Colorado, the United States, and beyond for 5 decades. Cheers to 5 more! Here are a few fun shots for the 50th anniversary celebration party.

Watch out: designers on the slopes! Our DTJ crew traded blueprints for ski boots and embraced the fresh air, fun, and mountain vibes for a well-deserved ski day adventure! Swipe left to experience our DTJer`s fun on the slopes, where even the most creative minds need epic breaks, too. ⛷️❄️
It`s #UglyChristmasSweaterDay and we`re only just getting started for the holiday season with our annual ugly sweater contest coming this Tuesday. Our crew has a history of going all out, and we absolutely can`t wait to see what wild ideas and a little Photoshop will bring to the table. Swipe to see what some of us wore last year—who do YOU think took home the prize?
👷♀️🔨 There`s nothing like getting our hands dirty for a good cause! Our DTJers rolled up their sleeves and joined @habitatdenver at their newly opened modular factory in Boulder. We split into teams, jumped into the assembly line, and began framing floors, installing window trim, painting interior walls, and more. These homes will soon be installed in a Boulder community, and we’re proud to be a small part of building something bigger. Swipe to see the fun we had!
